  1. Thank you so much for addressing this topic in a God centered way. I am a mother of 3 energetic boys who were all born cesarean. My first pregnancy was not hard but from complications in the last hours, the Dr. rushed us to have an emergency C section. However it wasn’t only a common one but a T cut. So at this point I was marked to have c sections for the remainder of by birthing experiences. I pains me to say that I do feel the circles within the groups of sisters in Christ who desire to have V births, but the critique against and only for v birth leave people out who could not or have not had them. There are so many desires as moms that can become roadblocks to the very people the Lord has called us to love and be in fellowship with and support. It does sadden me if I dwell on the fact that I won’t experience the same thing others do with it comes to how my babies were born, but the Lord knew what I would go through and the lessons there in. It is sweet when the Lord brings an opportunity to share Him and the peace He can give whether it’s waiting for the labor pains to start or knowing your date and waiting patiently for your time at the hospital. So enough said, thank you!

    • Thank you for sharing Mandy! yes God certainly does have a different and unique plan for each of us doesn’t He! The unfortunate thing is that division happens when pride sets in and that grieves our Father’s heart. My prayer is that women would be encouraged to seek Him and be looking for the growth in whatever experiences the Lord allows. Bless you friend! I hope to see you back here soon. Or feel free to contact me by email! angie@choosegrowth.com
Maybe you would be up for sharing your testimony here!

    • Mandy,

My experience is very similar to yours. I’ve had 5 babies, 4 of them c-sections. I was able to have my oldest naturally, but only barely. I ended up in an emergency c-section with my second after 36hrs of labor! With my 3rd, I made the painful decision to have a planned c-section rather than try for a v-back and then continued to have c-sections with 4 & 5. While my husband and I didn’t make that decision lightly, I frequently feel like those in my acquaintance feel that we did. I’m frequently accused of “blindly following what the doctors say” and if I had “only gone with their doctor/midwife I could have had a successful v-back”. They pooh-pooh the fact that my 2nd nearly died and if I had only done this or that everything would have been fine. It’s frustrating to say the least.

Even though we are done having babies, I look forward to reading this book. Maybe it will help me find some peace :)

    • Marlene,
I hear your heart and just want to encourage you, that I, too, have to have all C-sections and know exactly the pain and condemnation that you feel. I had 4 C-sections {twins with the last} and I want to encourage you that God’s plan IS different for each of us. Rest in that truth and be blessed today!

  2. Funny we should both be presenting new books on the same subject at the same time! Great minds think alike. Hope your endeavor is a great success. Pray we both reach lots of women & help them have a more Christocentric birth experience! !st printing of my book uncovered a few mistakes, but I should have it fixed up & available on Amazon in paperback & e-book format by Christmas. As soon as I finish mine, I will read yours! Can’t wait to get it.

  3. I tried to enter email to subscribe… don’t know if it worked… nothing happened… I did all “entries”… except there were no “images” to “pin” on Pinterest :(

  4. Thank you for making this book! Although I suffer from secondary infertility, and pending a miracle I will be having no more precious birth’s of biological children, I am so grateful for this book! This is so timely and so very needed! At a time when so many woman are starting to thirst ans cry out for a different birth experience than the one we typically have, there is now a Christian calling out in the dessert of many secular and mystical views. Let’s lift one another up and glorify Christ together! Thank you. Just bought the book 20 minutes ago on Amazon :-)

  5. Looking forward to reading this book also. I had 2 c sections. First one emergency and a very traumatic experience. My epidural had not worked and had been given a spinal which was also not working and therefore I was not yet numb when they started to cut me open and had to be knocked out after they had already cut me open. I did not see my son for 4 hours afterwards and was separated from him and from my husband for the first 24 hours because it was in a military hospital overseas that was in the middle of being renovated and so husbands were not allowed to stay in the maternity ward overnight. Took me a long time just to get over the nightmares of being awake during surgery, many hours spent feeling guilty, praying, crying, feeling as if I had been robbed. 3 years later I was hoping and praying for a vbac but thyroid cancer, gestational diabetes , and severe kidney problems with our baby complicated my pregnancy to the point that when it finally came to 39 weeks I was told it was no longer an option and so we planned our 2nd c section. I wish I had had a book like this at that time. We had spent the last 5 weeks of the pregnancy doing biweekly biophysical profiles to ensure that the baby was not in danger of being stillborn, and I was absolutely so petrified to the point that I wasn’t even excited on the day our 2nd son was born, I was just scared out of my mind that the experience would be the same. I remember them wheeling me into the surgery suite, nervously asking them if I really had to do this. God taught me much in that time about asking and accepting His will even if it was not my will. I did have a wonderful experience the 2nd time around. I was numb the whole time ( praise God!), had a wonderful OB who was very sensitive to how badly my first c section had gone and took great care to make sure I was comfortable emotionally and physically the whole way through. Once in the recovery room I was allowed to breastfeed immediately and my baby and husband were allowed to be with me the entire time we were in the hospital. My husband was allowed to go with our newborn for all of his kidney testing. It was a night and day difference and I praised God over and over again the night of my youngest sons birth. I had a song in my heart again and I thanked God for restoring that which I felt I never got to experience with my first. I still feel some guilt and as if I don’t measure up or I’ve failed over the c section issue but God has used cancer to teach me that if it isn’t death..then it is life…no matter how it happens and life is something to celebrate. C sections aren’t a a sign that I’m a failure anymore than my getting cancer is a sign that I’m a failure. Can’t wait to read this book!

    • Amen haven. C-sections do not mean you were or are a failure. That is a lie from satan. We need to be encouraging, understanding and loving toward the different experiences we each have. Some are traumatic like yours… and those experiences require healing from, but God can heal as you know and shared first hand. But some women are blessed with amazing birth experiences too and they should not be “silenced” from telling their story either… Amen!

Every Woman Has Her Story is the first chapter and one of my personal favs… I hope this blesses you and helps you to find the added encouragement with regard to your “expecations” of birth to be.

Can I pray now for you?
Lord, I just ask that you would heal haven from any emotional or mental wounds. I ask you would protect her mind from the lies of the enemy. And I ask Lord, that you would redeem her past hurtful experiences for your Glory. May She minister to women because of it and be able to lead them closer to your Son, Jesus Christ.

Thank you for my sister Haven… bless her home. Amen

I am so blessed you shared your story with me. God Bless you!

  8. I’m so incredibly excited to read this book. I’m really disappointed that you’re requiring a pinterest account for this giveaway, though. I am not comfortable with their terms of use nor do I have time to learn a new social site. I have two children three and under…

    • Oh Allison, it didn’t even occur to me when I made this giveaway the “required” button was clicked… I will go fix that so you can enter everything honey- thank you for letting me know. God bless you mama!

    • I am so sorry Allison.. I didn’t realize the raffle-copter made it “required” to Pin. Sorry, I will try to make sure that doesn’t happen next time honey. Thanks for letting me know!

    • Thank you Heather- we need more women like you in the church… engaging the role of the Titus 2 woman. I am excited you found us so you can use this as a tool in your ministry to other women in this season! Blessings

  11. I am SO very excited about reading this book! I have 4 children aged 7, 4.5, 2.5 and 14mths, 4 beautiful amazing God breathed labours (although all very different!) and the last 3 homebirths. Redeemed childbirth has been a passion of mine ever since I was pregnant with my first. I couldn’t agree more that there is a blessing to be experienced in childbirth. Did I mention that I was excited?! Thank you so much for writing this – this message is desperately needed in our world today!!

    • Oh thank you sweet Jacgui! I agree this message is needed today as well and I believe God is doing an amazing work to get it out to the world. But I also believe He wants to use the church to bring this message… women just like you and me! You are a Titus 2 Mentor… you have a message to share! If you would ever like to share your testimony here, please email me! Thanks & God Bless

  12. This is fantastic! Thank you so much. Just ordered a copy of Redeeming Childbirth and downloaded the study guide. Also bookmarked the playlist.

We’re expecting our first baby in June. I would love to check this book out! :)

    • Lauren, Congrats on your baby! I remember my first birth as if it were yesterday! But can’t we all! That is God’s beauty in it… while our births are NOT where our identity is found… the Lord can choose to use this season with all its joys and hardships to refine us and make us more like Him… beautiful! God bless sister! Thanks for stopping by! Make sure you make it over to the “Ultra-Sound of Worship” tab under FREE Resources and check out the FREE playlist of 2.5 hours of worship music ready to play with a click! God Bless!

  14. I’m newly married and nervous about having children! This sounds like a perfect book for me to read! I want to read things from a NON secular stand point!

    • Thanks for stopping by Sarah! Our culture feeds us fear on so many issues, pregnancy and childbirth are not excluded from their list are they?! ;) I can’t wait to hear what you think of it! Blessings in Him!

  15. Dearest Sister,
I stumbled upon your website and the title of your book touched my heart. I yearn so much for the simple, godly life where everything comes in focus with God’s Word. When I was pregnant with my son, I felt so many emotions…fear, uncertainty, joy, trepidation…and I think the hardest part was not having my mom. My relationship with my mom ended when I met my husband, and I was forced to choose between them. She was my best friend and I thought nothing would ever come between us. But I had been in bondage under my family and God had to do a mighty work to set me free. Although it was painful, He gave me a precious, godly man to love, hold, and protect me.
However, I knew absolutely nothing about childbirth. I knew that I wanted to have my baby natural, and decided I would not accept any C-sections or epidurals. Unfortunately, I chose the wrong setting…the hospital had me hooked up to IV’s, monitors, so much that I couldn’t focus, concentrate or even move. I was in labor for sixteen hours and I honestly did not think I could endure the pain. When my son was delivered, they had latched a heart monitor on his head, and ripped it off, leaving a scar. That scar is still there eighteen months later, a reminder that his birth really was not natural at all.
We are trying to conceive again, and I recently had a miscarriage at four months. That broke my heart. I cherish precious little children and always dreamed of having as many as God would allow my body to produce. This next time, I really want to invite God into the whole picture. I want Him to guide me every step of the way.
Thank you, dear sweet sister, for encouraging, uplifting and inspiring us, for we so desperately need it! It gives us hope and strength! May He continue to bless you and give you wisdom and guidance in all you do…what a gift.

  16. We have our 8th on the way, so this would be a good book to read!

  17. Logged onto twitter and saw your tweet. Normally I wouldn’t check it…I am single and hove no children…BUT, just found out my niece is pregnant with twins and has a 7.5 month old. They have been married less than 2 years, both in school and daddy has a fulltime job. I am wondering if you have anything about when a dream is deferd due to family? She wants to be an Occupational Therapist. I am going to send her this link…God thing, don’t you think?

  18. Jessie Robinson says:

Thank you so much for obeying the Lord and going ahead w/ sharing this burden on your heart, for us sisters in the Lord. I have been balling reading your book (my husband started laughing at me telling me “Honey, you are only on pg. 6″) and parts feel like I could have written it! I feel very much called and directed by the Lord to share the impact He had on me during both my births. I tell other Christian women they have such an advantage being a believer going through the birth process. He has placed me in the position at church I can share a lot with other women about birth and I pray He uses it for His glory. The part you shared about how God directed which song to be played at your first daughter’s birth happened to us at our 2nd daughter’s birth. It was the Jimmy Robeson song, “God Is On Our Side” which has lyrics from Ps. 46:1-3. At my first birth a nurse had given us a card with these verses inscribed on it. My husband saved that card to give me during our 2nd birth. The words to those verses just happened to be in that song that was playing as our 2nd daughter was born. Her middle name is “Selah” which is stated in that Psalm right after verse 3. God had His hand ALL over it! :) Love those details that show you how close He is! Barbara Harper happens to also be a friend from my church’s midwife and she is the one who told me about this book…I’m so thankful she did!

    • Hello Jessie! Thank you for stopping by the website! You are so sweet! I love hearing stories like yours. I praise God for what He has done in your life! If you would like to share in more detail, your testimony, go to the tab under the blog and send me an email! Also, this week I am posting on a series about the legacies we leave with regard to this season. Would love to have you come by and check it out!
      God Bless sister.

  19. I am Brazilian and I would love to read this book in Portuguese! Here in Brazil there is almost no evangelical books on this important subject!
It will be translated when perspective?
Sorry mistakes. I used Google translator.

I will be attempting to share my story, might take me a bit of time to get it written up :) Thanks!

  24. As a Labor Doula I am excited to see childbirth approached from a Christian perspective through Redeeming Childbirth. Thank you!

    • Hi Karie! So glad to have met you here! Yes, there isn’t much out there from a purely biblical perspective is there.
My heart is that it would be used as a tool and resource for many midwives, doulas and childbirth educators as well… a way to deeply minister to their clients souls… let’s connect! We have a bunch of online communities too! See you there!

  25. Alexandria M. says:

As a woman new to Christianity in the last two years, I look forward to welcoming God into all parts of my life, but never had it occurred to me to think about pregnancy/childbirth in this way. The only thing that came to mind initially was how many people mention “the bible says God made childbirth painful.”

I really look forward to learning more about this aspect of my life in a more positive light through Jesus as we prepare to welcome our second child in June. It takes a lot of the focus off the medical/decision making parts of pregnancy, which is a welcome relief!

  26. Redeeming Childbirth for sure! Others that stood out are… The No Brainer Wardrobe, Reuse Refresh Repurpose, Honoring the Rhythm of Rest, Princess Training, Your Grocery Budget Toolbox. Each of these resonates with me and there were so many more, but those were the top ones that I felt directly applied to me where I am now and in the immediate future. Love the mission you have and pray God’s blessings upon it moving forward!

I have suffered a loss of my first daughter shortly after childbirth to which the Lord changed the direction of my life to one of service to childbearing women. I am now a midwife. I will be sharing your resources to my clients and would LOVE this book for my lending library.
